Saturday was a busy day at GTR East in Oshawa. We got a great place in the stands again near some of our old friends….
Here’s Petey wearing his vintage Simbotics uniform……and here’s JNo (being a K-Bot in disguise)…and here’s Brian from the Cyberfalcons We all settled in to scout the teams on our pick list. We had a very challenging lineup in the morning, and didn’t win any of our matches.
We did get to spend time dancing….…cheering……knitting…
…. talking with new friends…..….and helping out in the pits.
Here’s our pit where we do all of our repairs between matches.
We also give our our special hand knit buttons. Thanks so much to the knitters of Battersea who have made so many hats for us over the last 2 years. Thanks also to Elizabeth (an alumna studying in Halifax) for making us more! We had a pretty famous mascot at this tournament. Blue bear made lots of new friends! It’s a hot and sweaty job being a mascot.
The alliance selection happened before lunch. We were selected by the third alliance captain, FIRST team 1547, Where’s Waldo, to be part of an alliance. We asked FIRST team 4252 to join us. We had a tough few quarterfinal matches…our alliance got a red card causing us to lose the first match. We won our second match, but our robot had suffered a rather serious crash into the pyramid, and our shooter needed immediate repair. Things got marginally better for the third match, but we still lost the match and were eliminated from the competition.
We ended the day at the Transformix warehouse where we unloaded our rental van, and crated up our now shooter-less robot. We examined the shooter to make a plan for our re-build. Look at that poor mangled shooter! Mr. Wood had left us instructions to crate the robot, indicating that the doors fit tightly….we could not make them fit tightly at all!We closed it up anyhow as best as we could. FedEx is picking up the crate this week.
