Tonight we gathered in the evening, after all of the sports teams had finished their games, and we transformed our school gymnasium into an FLL tournament venue.
We set up the tournament tables and practice tables in the gym…

…and another set in each of the technical judging rooms.

Quality control was very important for this job!

We put up signs all over the school to lead people to the various important locations…

We’ve reused all of the signs from last year!

It was a big job to make sure that each of the rooms had all of the required information for each set of judges.

We were thankful to the many K-Bots who gave up their Friday evening to help set up–many hands do make light work! Thanks also to Richard, one of our mentors from Transformix Engineering, who came out to help. He’s getting excited for build season, just like we all are.

We worked together to make sure our robot was demo ready, and looking great! Everyone headed home and straight to bed. We’re expected to be at our posts at 7:00AM tomorrow.

We were excited to show our robot to so many people, and to thank the Limestone Learning Foundation for all of their support last year.
Before long, the room was packed with people enjoying their champagne reception.
After our demonstration ended, the gala began. The K-Rock center was decorated very beautifully with seating for 700 to enjoy a 3 course meal and fabulous live entertainment by local students and famous musicians.

Here are the results: Group 1 had a really tall tower! They took advantage of having several really tall people in their group who could put the top pieces on.

We had delicious snacks (Thanks Megan!)
Then our robots were on display in the hallway and everyone got a chance to drive and operate Kasey I and Kasey III.

Some of the older students had a turn driving the robot, while the younger ones seemed more concerned about if the robot was alive, or if it was a boy or girl robot, and what its name was.
Tim was having such a good time teaching driving skills that he let us catch a smile on camera!
Some of the grade 8s were very intrigued with how the robot was built, and they look forward joining our team next year.

What a day it has been! We gathered this afternoon to celebrate our season and to thank our mentors, families and sponsors.
We showed our chairman’s video and gave the chairman’s presentation for our audience. We gave a robot demo. We recognized our Dean’s List and Woodie Flowers nominees, and applauded our graduating students and mentors.
We presented our top ten list as well:
